Holiday Tour in Kuala Lumpur - New King's Palace


The New Kings Palace or Istana Negara is located along Jalan Duta. Tourist arrive in bus loads to take picture with the standing guards and horse mounted guards. You do not need to ask the guard if you can take a picture with them. They are standing at attention and still and will not respond to you. The old palace on Jalan Istana has been converted into a Palace Museum. Entry Fees to the museum is RM10 for tourist and RM5 for locals.

Malaysia originally have 14 states less Singapore; she now has 13 states. The System in Malaysia is Constitutional Monarchy. There are rulers or sultans in the 9 states and 4 states does not have rulers are headed by Governors ( Yang Di-Pertua Negeri ) i.e. Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Pulau Pinang  The King is elected from among the 9 rulers, who are elected by secret ballot to be King or Agong. The junior ruler will not be nominated but ask to count the votes. The sultan must get atleast 5 votes to be The King and rule for 5 years until the next balloting. The Present King is a ruler from Kedah state, he was the only ruler who was crowned King for 2 times. A documentary titled  "I was King Twice" was produced by National Geography.
